Why Study History?
History is the study, analysis, and interpretation of the past, in relation to continuing events. Regardless of its focus: civilizations, countries, societies, people, religion, wars, events, ideas, time periods, etc., History has many essential purposes that allow for not only the study, but understanding of the human experience in other times and places. It attempts to broaden our understanding of the past, how it has transformed the world we live in today, and why change continues to occur. As active members of society, students will learn to use analytical and critical thinking skills to reconstruct, and grow an appreciation of the evolution of these topics in relation to one another, and their impact on the present. In addition, through History we are able to identify, compare, and contrast trends found in the past to those we presently face. We are then able to apply our knowledge, in order to find the best approaches to address issues or concerns for the future.
